In addition to couples, I also work with adults, adolescents, parents, and families. I help people navigate through depression, anxiety, life transitions, identity issues, grief and loss, and trauma. Scroll to the "Let Me Help You Through" section (or click the tab above) and see all of the other areas I can help you with.

APRIL HARRIELL

Licensed Professional Counselor & Owner

Emotionally Focused Relationship/Couple Therapist

My number one goal as a therapist is to meet you with full acceptance of your entire lived experience and personhood. I value the time I get to spend with my clients and aim to provide an emotionally safe space for you to explore aspects of yourself you may have hidden or didn't even know existed.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is my area of speciality that I use not only to help couples strengthen the connective tissue within their relationships, but I also help individuals restore supportive bonds with those they love. Emotionally secure and satisfying attachments/bonds are critical components to our physical, mental, and emotional well-being; we are meant for connection! I'll help you identify and understand your unmet attachment needs, fears, and injuries to make sense of your behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. I'll help you develop deeper levels of connection with yourself and with the relationships that mean the most to you.

I strive for this website to serve as a "house" of information and resources to help you along your path. I hope as you move through the "house" you feel the compassion and care I have for every person I work with, and I'm hopeful that includes you.

It's a privilege to walk alongside you on your journey to better overall wellness and a more enriched life! Thank you for choosing Drake Wellness Group and I look forward to beginning our work together.

With Gratitude,
~April

How are sessions held , insurance, and fee information...

  • I see clients in-person (greater Milwaukee area) and virtually (Wisconsin & Mississippi).
  • I accept Optum / UHC (Wisconsin & Mississippi); Aetna (Wisconsin), and Aurora Health Network (Wisconsin) via UHC plans. Use of insurance benefits require a mental health diagnosis.
  • I am licensed in the states of Wisconsin (#10804-125) and Mississippi (#3030), which means you must be in one of these states at the time of your virtual session, per each state's licensing requirements.
  • Fees for sessions are as follows:

60 minute individual sessions- $155

60 minute couple / family sessions- $165

90 minute couple / family sessions- $185 (all 90 minute sessions are out of pocket as insurance does not cover for sessions longer than 1 hour).

*All couple sessions are paid out of pocket/self pay. I  do not use diagnosis  for this type of therapy, which is required by insurance companies. As an Emotionally Focused Therapy relationship specialist, I treat relationship concerns and problems; helping couples develop deeper connections. If you and your partner are seeing me to help the relationship, I am not treating a mental health diagnosis and therefore am unable to provide the type of documentation required to indicate medical necessity. This policy also maintains the confidentiality of your relationship issues and prevents insurance companies from dictating the type of treatment your relationship gets; the length of treatment, etc.

Couple therapy with an Emotionally Focused relationship specialist is a priceless  investment  in your relationship and the future of your connection with the person who means the most to you. *

BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

Books are great additions to therapy and just good, in general, to have in your toolkit. They not only provide helpful information, but can also give greater understanding of what you may be going through. Sometimes, you might even get into one of these books and say to yourself, "How did this person know my story!!"...sometimes you can really see yourself in these pages. If reading a page-turning book isn't your style, search for these on Kindle or audio-book platforms like Audible.

I'll try to update this section as I discover new reading material I want to share with you! Now get to it...dig into one these selections and build your wellness library!

* This Season's Podcast*

Attachment theory and attachment styles are rampant across social media and even showing up in some popular dating shows lately. Despite it becoming more popular in the recent few years, it's been around for ages and as an attachment-based therapist, I appreciate the increased awareness and recognition.

In short, attachment styles come from our relationships with our caregivers in childhood and become the backdrop to our relationships; the way we bond with others/attach to others; and even the relationship we have with ourselves. It's the key to a lot of patterns to our emotions, thoughts, behaviors, needs, fears; and holds the key to some of our most critical emotional wounding.

Listen to this podcast (click the podcast title above!) and learn more about attachment styles! Thais Gibson is a relationship expert, therapist, and author who breaks down, in an easy-to-understand way, the 4 most common attachment styles and how they play out in our love lives. As a caveat, at the end of the podcast, she does offer a 21 day meditation to help "heal" your attachment wounds. In full transparency, I am not a fan and usually don't co-sign time framed "fixes" like this. I'm not saying it does not work, it's just not something I can't co-sign. BUT I do co-sign everything else about this podcast...so give it a listen!

*Please note, this podcast is for informational purposes only! Please do not create an identity around an attachment style...which is something I'm seeing too much on the socials and dating shows.*

~April
